Newbee Marketer Sister Website

Although I did not go with the original plan of setting up a site to guide people to the creation of a safe room in their homes as I had originally intended, I have instead chose to create a sight that is helpful, and useful for the internet affiliate marketer. An easy way to earn - Affiliate programs

It is true, that there is a surge in internet marketing. The advance in technology has made it quite easy to create web sites, or web logs, (blogs) such as this one for even the very inexperienced individual. This is an example of how easy the process is. Many sites on the internet that sell things offer a link for affiliates. It could be an Ebook, a CD, Software, digital photographs, or just about anything. In order for businesses to put there products in front of as many people as possible they encourage individuals with web sites, or blogs, to supply links to their sites to sell the product. When a web site viewer clicks on one of these links, he is sent to the site where if he buys, the person who provided the link makes a percentage of the sale, thus making him an affiliate.

Lets go through this step by step. I will use the software Spyware Nuker for a test case, I have read reviews about this product, and it is rated quite good. If you go to their site at SpywareNuker.com you will see a tab on their home page called partners, (another name for affiliate), when clicked, it will explain their affiliate policy. Theirs pays 40 percent on direct sales from their affiliates, not bad for just posting a link to their site. There are some other details to get the system operating. They require that you setup an account with Click Bank, ClickBank.com, this is the bank that they pay their affiliates through. Since I am already a Clickbank subscriber, this will make it even easier for me, but it only takes a couple minutes to set up an account. Incidently clickbank offers about 10,000 products that you can sell for a profit with them.

Another task is posting a fancy, eye catching banner ad on your site, to help guide your veiwers to the product. Most product suppliers offer free banner ads for their affiliates. All you have to do now is right click on the banner add you think best fits your site motif, and save it to your hardrive, and then post it to your site just like a photo. I have chosen and posted the banner below.

Greetings, the thought of setting up and maintaining a website is a little bit challenging, but if you are like me, you want to get it right. There isn't a person out there in cyberspace, who doesn't occasionally think about putting a web site on the internet. This blog, and the links I provide, will inform you, the Newbee, with the information necessary to overcome your fears about web publishing.

Welcome to 2005. May this be the year that you realize all your goals and hopes. If you have been a regular reader of The Newbee Marketer, you know that we have started from scratch. The posts of 2004 are of some great value, but we must move on. If you are serious about creating a web site for profit, you should take a quick look at the past, and get on board with the future.

There are several things I am working on right now, a Newbee Marketer Newsletter, that will offer a weekly roundup of the thoughts and tips covered in the Newbee Marketer Blog. I suggest that you consider a similar form of communication with the individuals that you hope to draw to your site. This newsletter will provide a link for viewers to go to your web site, or blog, and get more information. By helping people find what it is that they are looking for, you will gain favor with them, and hopefully, they will come back. Additionally, I am still hoping to be up and running a site of my own this month.

As I work to get these things accomplished, I will share with you all how it's done. So sharpen your pencils, get a fresh cup of coffee, or whatever your poison, and get ready to be an internet icon. We can do it, and we can get it right!

How do you present yourself/yoursite?

How you present your website is critical to who will stop and browse, yes there is a reason they call it a browser. I'd like to think that this photo doesn't scare to many people off, but then again, there are are some who would be attracted to it. Go figure, the first impression that people get of your site when the homepage loads in their browser will affect the decision to look further, or look farther. Since nearly every book or article I have read about web design has stressed the importance of standing out and being unique, I would have to add, think of your target audience.

The target audience, or internet user, looking for a specific piece of information would probably pass a site with this photo if they were looking for... lets say a baby sitter. On the internet, a picture is worth a thousand words. Would an individual looking for bouncer or mechanic, or even a painter, have a different opinion, probably. Image is everything, think carefully when choosing what your viewers will see when they open the front door of your business, your homepage.

Your homepage must be an inviting presence. A welcome mat for the internet traveler. If you don't give your viewers a clear, uncluttered picture of what lies within, they will never take that first step. At the top of this blog you will see that I have stated a breif description of what you will find here. Freindly advice about web design and internet marketing from a newbee. I don't mind calling myself that, because I am. I hope to share what I've learned as I go. Good, Bad, it doesn't matter, because we are learning together.

Every page on your web site should have a link back to your homepage. Within your site, when someone is clicking along, they may realize that they have gone into an area that is different or unimportant to what they are searching for. By providing a link to the homepage, they don't immediately leave your site, but instead they start over in the same site. Additionally, a link provided to a site outside of yours should open in a new window. This provides a way back to your site to someone who may want to investigate more.

In the next few days to come, while you are cruizing around the internet, look at the layout of some of the sites you like. Take some notes on what you like about them, and start to get an idea of how you will layout your own. Check with your spouse and your kids, find out what it is that they like about sites, after all, you are not your target audience. blog you later, jim

One day at a time

Not getting much traffic to your site? Can't get the exposure you hoped would happen? Not making any revenue? Don't panic, this isn't some kind of get rich scheme. Expect many hurdles, and be prepared to do some honest hard work. I have learned that although the concept of setting up a web site, and doing the research, are fairly easy tasks, getting people to find you once you've published may not be so easy.

As an experiment, try to find web sites that are similar to what you hope to publish. When you see how many are out there, (usually thousands), take some notes on what you liked most about some of them. In order to gain an edge on those other sites, you must stand out. If you have some important piece of information that veiwers of you site may find incredibly helpful, make it available for free, and advertise it as a givaway. The thought of giving away something for free that you may have worked hard for may not sound appealing, but if it gets 100 people to your site, and 10 sign up for your newsletter, you have succeeded.

It's going to happen, success is nearer to you every step you take, make every one count for something, and do it one day at a time. We, as a team, learning and doing, will make it. Come back and lets set some realistic goals for getting this project off the ground. seeya jim

Several posts ago, I revealed that I intended to create a web site that would assist in the organization and setup of a safe room. Since then, I have been doing some surfing to locate companies that I could provide links to, and researching general information that I feel may be helpful to someone thinking of attempting such a project. I would encourage anyone who is doing this type of research to compile a list of words that are relevant to your site. You will need these words to help guide customers to your site. These words, placed strategicly in your site remain hidden to surfers, but stand out when someone enters them in a search engine such as Google or Lycos.

By now we should have created a folder for our site, (part of getting organized). The folder should have sections with areas for hosting info, domain registration, meta tags or keywords, sites to link to, general information, and any other thing that you can think of that may be specific to your type of web site. Another good strategy is to begin formulating a layout for a newsletter. Newsletters offered daily or weekly provide a way for customers to keep current on subjects. They also provide a link to your site, and in the form of email, can be forwarded by recipiants of the newsletter to their freinds. This increases traffic to your site.

Always provide a way for a subscriber to opt out of receiving a periodic newsletter. Nobody likes spam, and the last thing you want to do is send out unwanted emails to people. The golden rule works good in this situation. Develop your newsletter to be informative, keep ads to a minimum, avoid clutter. I subscribe to many newsletters, and I usually go right to the meat and potatoes, avoiding the junk. Most people do. Blog you later... jim

First attempt at making a profit

By now I'm sure that you have noticed the advertisements posted on this blog. I am not going to go nuts posting ads for this, and ads for that, but if I see something that may help with the setup and configuration of a website, I may display a link for a period. This is an example of attempting to make a profit. By providing these links, anyone that visits them enables me the opportunity for potential income.

It works the same way on all websites. For now, you will notice that I have limited them to web hosting space, and domain search and registration. I hope you will explore some of these links, and take advantage of some of the deals that I have researched. We both win when we help each other. This spirit of assisting others is used to a great extent at the Strong Future International Marketing Group web site. I can't stress enough how important it is to check it out. It is a wealth of info on setting up and maintaining sites.

If you are serious about creating a steady income stream with an internet based business, you will need to learn how to become an affiliate with companies that are related to what you are promoting with your website. Weekend Wrapup

Before you know it, the weekend is upon us. Lets go back and summarize what we have looked at, and look ahead a little to next week.

We started from scratch. We've looked at some books on web design, maybe familiarized ourselves with the HTML language, or at least looked at it. We have identified some web hosting services, and looked into registering a domain name. The selection of a domain name is well on its way, and we have centered our area of interest on subjects that we enjoy to keep our motivation peaked. How simple was that?

Some of you may be scratching your heads, and thinking this seems to simple, why isn't everyone doing this. I have some news for you. ALOT of people are doing this. If you are still wondering why it is important to get a site up on the internet think about this, I own a site on the internet, I control the advertising on my site. Whatever your site is focused on, (camping, painting, plants, hot rods, biking, ceramics, web design, landscaping, model airplanes, cooking, martial arts, etc.), WHATEVER, your site is focused on, there are hundreds of companies out there that want to promote their products and services. When you control the advertising, you don't have to have an inventory of tents to sell to campers, you have to have the place for campers to go when they want some info, such as a place to buy hiking maps. You also have to have a link to a place where they can buy tents, and when they do, you get a small percentage as a commission.

I cannot stress to you how import it is to get very specialized. The internet search engines that locate info for millions of people around the world use words called meta tags. These are key words that are placed on your title pages to guide people to your site. Meta tags are a subject that we will look into in future posts.

Get some regular sources of support. You can't possibly learn what it takes to get established as an internet mogul from one blog. This site is for newbees. We are here to have fun, and learn the basics of web design and marketing. It is my hope to explain things as I go, but I am in learning mode too. Having some fun in Springdale...

When we started on this blog tutorial, I said that I hoped we could have some fun along the way, and that is exactly what this post is about. Picking a little guitar with my only brother is definitely a way to inspire a little creativity, and take in a little fresh air. I don't proclaim to be a great guitarist, but I like to pick a little. If you have to have a hobby, this one is pretty cool, and it doesn't cost much.

If we incorporate our hobbies into our web design techniques, it just makes it that much more enjoyable. Some hobbies can be profitable too. My brother collects Beatles memoribilia, and I consider him to be very knowledgeable on the subject. He's not a bad bass player either.

If your struggling to come up with an idea for a web site to begin your marketing business, you may want to consider some of your hobbies. Here is something else to consider, while you are making money on the internet 24 hours a day, you will have alot more time to enjoy your hobbies, like playing the guitar. Blog you later. jim

Just some facts worth reading.....

The Internet is a big place, in case you haven't noticed. If you have been reading from the begining of this blog, we have been discussing some of the most basic planning and organization of setting up a web site, and establishing a marketing presence on it. I thought you might be interested in what kind of competition you may be facing.

There is an outfit over by Bath England that has been doing internet monitoring since 1995 or so. It is beleived at that time that the internet began to take shape. In May of 1999, there were approximately 6 million sites on the internet that they were able to track. They still monitor sites, and list what type of server software is being used on every site on the net. The most sites added to the internet in one year was 16.1 million, that was the year 2000. In the first eleven months of 2004, the internet grew by 10.1, and will probably hit 11 million new sites by years end. This will be the second largest growth year on record.

I hope that anyone who is stumbling along with me has taken the time to look at a few sites that provide domain registration, and maybe even some web hosting services. This is an essential part of creating a presence on the internet. If you haven't had any success looking, don't worry, old Jim has a few for you to look at, and I have placed some links into this post for you to click on. If you didn't find the area about domain registration it is located in the products section, but I can tell you that one year domain registration here will cost $29.97, and two years is $49.97. If you just register your domain, you will still need to buy some space on a server somewhere, and I think that there are better deals out there, but if you are an affiliate with SFI, you will make a commission off registering from yourself. The choice is a little harder to make when you factor in potential income. Alot of what you do in setting up your web site will require you to make decisions that will affect your long term success or failure. In the short term, if you register as an affiliate at the link above, they provide you with many web sites called gateways, which will allow you to sell a wide range of products and services. They do alot to promote their wares, and initially, it is all FREE. Ideally, wouldn't you buy from yourself if you had your own store, well this works the same way. It also provides you with an opportunity to add others to your organization, and there are some bennies for doing this also.

Getting back to the topic of being a newbee marketer. Just imagine having your own website, whatever it may be about, and having an opportunity to let anyone who visits your site with just a click of their mouse, visit your SFI gateway sites, and make a purchase, or sign up so that he can have the opportunity to connect his own site to SFI. I have news for you, the more traffic, the more exposure you receive, the more income you will realize. It's that simple. I would suggest to you that if you have the time to spend a couple of hours a week dedicated to creating a well thought out web site, you can succeed in creating a steady income. There are many of these affiliate type promotions on the internet, selling any thing you can imagine, they all want exposure, and they all pay real dollars to those lucky individuals who send traffic to their web sites. We can be those lucky individuals.

Well, I have promoted my SFI site, now I must confess that I do not have a web site yet, but I have given this much thought, and I think that I am going to establish a site with a very important theme. The setup and operation of a safe room for every household in America. What I mean by a safe room is a place in every home where if power was to be suspended for extended periods in a community, 12v DC could keep essential things going in a home. Solar, wind, geothermal, dehydrated food supplies, bottled water. Basic survival information for times of uncertainty and unrest from natural disasters like tornadoes, floods, ice storms, things like that. We live in very unusual times, and I think families should be prepared for many different things that may occur.

There you have it, my idea for a website. Now I need to put my thinking cap on and go out and find some information which will make my site informative and timely. I would like to make some money eventually in this project, so I will have to find some vendors to which I can link to in order to sell things. This is truly a subject to which I will enjoy researching.

Time to get ORGANIZED!

I hope by now you have had a chance to look at a couple of web design books, maybe did some searching on the internet looking for some ideas as to what type of site you will be promoting. For those of you with an existing business, I applaud you, you're on your way. You should already have a business name, and you can perhaps work that into your domain name. Since we are starting from absolute scratch on this blog, I will explain for those who don't know what a domain name is. A domain name is the catchy little name that people use to locate you on the World Wide Web, also known as the internet. An example would be yahoo.com, although I am pretty sure that one is taken. There are several types of domains available with a range of prices and features. Some will end in .com, others include (.net .org .name .info) but this in by no means a complete list. By registering a domain, you are the owner of it for the duration of the registration period. Whoever came up with this system knew what they were doing because they have created an industry that will guarantee an enormous amount of income for many years to come, probably centuries.

Securing a domain name is not expensive. With just a little reasearch you can register one for under $10 a year. Many are taken, and you will need to do a domain search, this can be accomplished simply by trying the potential domain in your browsers address bar and clicking GO. There is usually a free domain search tool associated with most sites where you can register a domain. I like things that are free. There is alot of free stuff available on the web, however, not all of it is good. We will be discussing on a future post what to do with your domain name once you have secured it. I should mention that that you will be needing a place on the web to park your web site unless you have your own server already online. These places for parking your web site are called hosting services. Once again, this will cost a little, but not a great deal. Hosting services vary as to what they will provide, how much space, amount of transfered data in a certain period. Some services will provide software that will easily setup a web site in no time, and you can even find some that will toss in free domain names.

I think we have discussed quite a bit today, and covered several topics that you may want to research on your own a little. In my next post, I will suggest a couple of hosting services, and I will reveal what I am going to center my own web site around. I would suggest that if you are not already locked into something with an existing business that you narrow your choices to just a few. It's time to GET ORGANIZED.

Remember, choose an area of interest for your site that you enjoy, inspiration will come much easier if you are working with a subject that you have a passion for.

The weather outside is frightning..... Not really, a winter storm may come and go, dump a foot of snow, and the sun will be out on the next day. If you dress for it, the bad days aren't so bad.

If I told you that I had any kind of idea what I was really doing, I would be lying. I have spent many hours reading about web design, HTML, scripting, and web hosting. I will share with you many of my sources of knowledge in future postings, but for now I will just tell you that there is much more information out there than one could possibly absorb in the short time I have been doing this. I would suggest to anyone pursuing the idea of getting involved with this type of endeavor to start at your local library and pick up a couple books on website design and setup.

There are many internet sources with newsletters and tips that will aid in what I consider to be a first step in the internet marketing business, organizing a web site. I don't have one yet, but after all, we are learning how to do this together are we not.....

It is my hope to launch a website in early January, but there is much to do and research before I can even think about it. Here are some things to consider before you may want to jump out on that limb with me. Registering a domain name, finding hosting space, cost, and the overall theme or subject of your site are just some of the challenges that we will face. I would suggest that you find a topic that you enjoy working with, this will keep your interest peaked. It may even make this project less like work, and thats a good thing. I want to keep this from being a burden, and working with subjects that are of intrest might even make it fun.

Lets not get too far ahead of ourselves, we've got some work to do. Make a trip to the library, think about your theme or subject, give your kids a hug, call a freind and tell them about how excited that you are to be getting started building your own internet business. Share this blog, and don't forget to kiss your wife or husband and tell them how important their support is to the success of this project. blog you later...

Thanksgiving 2004

What better day is there to start a blog? Thanksgiving has always been a very special day for me. When I was a child, it meant lots of great food, no school, spending time with family, and of course a parade followed by football. Not much has really changed, or has it. Actually, alot has changed. It would not be uncommon for kids nowadays to be instant messaging their grandparents, chatting with siblings accross the country, or sharing digital photos of the Thanksgiving feast to every family member in the country with just the click of a mouse

The world wide web has enabled just about anyone with the desire, to stay in contact with freinds and family, share information, research just about any subject, start a business, pay the electric bill, or buy an old Beatles album. There is not much that cannot be accomplished on the internet. The trend to integrate the business world with the cyber world is well on its way, and I want to join the migration.

I hope that you will come back to see how an ordinary guy with a desire to develope an online business, stumbles through the process of unraveling the mystery of the internet. Lets have some fun, answer a few questions, and enjoy ourselves in the process.

Just one more thing, lets keep our leaders, our soldiers, airmen and marines who are protecting this great country in our thoughts and prayers today. We all have a great deal to be thankful for on this day of Thanksgiving.
